How to play Word Words

Five letters, color feedback, three lives, and combo scoring — here is everything you need to start strong.

Word Words is a five-letter word guessing game for iPhone (iOS 16+). You have unlimited puzzles, but each wrong guess costs a life. There is no healing: when all three lives are gone, the run ends. Build streaks to raise your combo multiplier for higher scores.

What the tile colors mean

After each guess, every letter is scored like familiar word games:

Step-by-step

  1. Enter a valid five-letter word — Submit a real dictionary word. The game tells you how close you are using the colored tiles.
  2. Refine using the colors — Prioritize new letters in fresh positions for yellows, avoid grays, and protect greens.
  3. Watch your three lives — Each puzzle is a survival round. Wrong guesses drain lives; there is no way to recover them mid-word.
  4. Chain solves for combos — Solving words back-to-back increases a combo multiplier up to 5× your base score.
  5. Play offline anytime — Progress auto-saves so you can pause on a commute or in airplane mode.

Lives and difficulty

Unlike a single daily puzzle, Word Words lets you play as many words as you want. Difficulty adapts as you improve, so wins stay meaningful. The three-life rule keeps tension high: you cannot afford careless guesses.

Quick questions

Do I get lives back during a word?

What is the highest combo multiplier?

Combos stack up to 5× on top of your base score when you keep solving words in a row.

Are puzzles limited per day?

No. You can start a new five-letter challenge whenever you like; difficulty scales with your performance.
